On the 1st of June (Children’s Day) there was a
Polish-Dutch match at the Chorzów stadium. Leo
Beenhakker and Wandafonds Foundation invited disabled
children from Ożarowska Rehabilitation Centre and adults
from Ożarowska Association with their parents to take
part. For the first time in the history children with
cerebral palsy in the number of eleven accompanied
Polish team while appearing on the pitch.
On the turf appeared children who walk by themselves.
Remaining nineteen children were watching the whole
match from a special sector of the stadium. They were
sitting on their wheelchairs. After the match everyone
could meet the Polish national team selector.
It was extraordinary day for them. Usually they work
hard dividing their day between rehabilitation, learning
and their homes. Disabled adults, who are conscious of
their situation, hope that the action is going to bring
notable benefits. They believe it is going to draw other
peoples’ attention to disabled people’s problems. It is
considered as a way to change disabled people’s life
into better.
The action has been promoted by Leo Beenhakker. It is
going to conscious the public opinion and people leading
in Poland that it is necessary to improve, the
children’s with cerebral palsy and children with hard an
uphill spasticity, standard of life. The point is to
introduce system solutions providing these children with
intensive rehabilitation as well as studying in proper
conditions. They shall have a chance to access the
hi-tech therapies like botuline toxin or baclofene pomp
therapies.
